GCCC Window Project and Ice Rink Impact

By John Utsey 05/19/2025, 10:15am MDT

The GCCC will replace its original, 25-year-old clear span windows this summer, from June 9 to July 18. These windows, now well beyond their 10-year warranty, are the source of leaks that have been damaging the ice. While the dates are subject to potential weather or other delays, the project is scheduled to minimize disruption by taking place during the summer, when daylight hours are longest and weather is typically more favorable.

For safety reasons, the rink will be closed to programming Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while the contractor is working. The City currently plans to operate the rink:

  • Monday - Thursday: 4:00 PM - 11:00 PM
    Fridays: 6:00 AM - 10:30 PM
Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

City staff is hopeful that ice will be maintained throughout the project.

We understand the inconvenience of limited ice time, but this long-overdue project is essential. We will provide updates as the situation progresses.

Hey Santa Fe Hockey Community!

The Santa Fe Hockey Association and the GCCC Ice Rink are teaming up to bring you something awesome: the Hockey Development program! We're talking 4 Saturdays of skill-building, ice-shredding action, starting THIS Saturday, May 10th!

This is a fantastic opportunity for players of all levels to get better and have a blast. Thanks to the GCCC's partnership with the Dallas Stars, we're making hockey accessible and affordable. How affordable? Try $4 a session for kids (or FREE if they're GCCC members!). That's right, just $4 to get your player on the ice and improving their game!

Here's the breakdown:

  • When: Saturdays: May 10, 17, 24, June 7, and 14
Cancelled May 17 due to GCCC Closure, May 31 for our friends the figure skaters to have their annual skate fest.

  • Time: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM (session details below)

  • Where: GCCC Ice Rink (3221 Rodeo Road)

  • Who: All skill levels welcome! We'll divide players into groups: Beginners, Medium Skill, and Advanced.

  • Cost: $4 drop-in fee (or FREE with GCCC membership)

  • Registration: https://forms.gle/P7GBk2Na3g2CBsLb8

What to Expect:

From 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM, all groups will work on drills. Then, the Advanced group gets the full sheet of ice from 9:50 AM to 10:30 AM for some serious full-ice action! Coaches Sean (Medium Skill) and Dan (Advanced) will assess player safety and skill for the advanced session.

We will accept registrations via the google form, but if we are over run with skaters we will have to limit attendance for safety reasons. If you register, but get an email saying your age group is full, we will try to make sure you get priority for the next Session starting June 21.

Important Note:

This is a brand-new program for the Ice Rink, so we might need to make some adjustments to the schedule, timing, or program details along the way. We appreciate your understanding as we work to make this the best possible experience for everyone.

Got questions? Contact Ice Arena Manager Jeffrey Cisneros at jxcisneros@santafenm.gov.

Let's pack the rink and have an amazing time!

The Board is actively recruiting new Board Members to fill two vacancies. We are specifically interested in Association members willing to serve as a Volunteer Coordinator. We are also looking for prospective Board Members with Fundraising, Community Outreach, Web Development, and Social Media experience. Prospective members will be voted on and seated at this meeting.
