The 2020 New Mexico Girls Player Selection Camp (NMGPSC) is an opportunity for all girls with birth years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 to experience hockey at a high level, to demonstrate their abilities and (except for 2007 girls) to compete to be selected to attend the Multi-District Girls Development Camp (MDGDC) in Colorado Springs.

This is the fifth year the Rocky Mountain District is joining with other western districts in presenting the MDGDC, a week-long, sleepover camp at Colorado College.  This year the camp will be June 6-10, 2020.  Details for the camp may be found at  Although the cost isn’t inexpensive ($670 in 2019), we think it is well worth it for enormous amount of ice time and high-level instruction. It is a valuable, eye opening experience!  However, even if you are unsure whether you can or want to attend the MDGDC, we strongly encourage you to attend the NMGPSC.

This year the NMGPSC will be held on Saturday, March 21 at the Outpost Ice Arena in Albuquerque.  The camp will consist of high level on-ice drills and a scrimmage.  Lunch will NOT be provided this year; the snack bar at the Outpost will be open and has an expanded menu if you don’t want to bring your own lunch.  Each attendee must be currently registered with USA Hockey in New Mexico.

The 2020 NMGPSC schedule is as follows:

Time Events
10:30-11:15 AM Check in; pick up tryout jersey
11:45 AM-12:45 PM Full ice drills and skills
3:30-4:30 PM Scrimmage
4:45-5:30 PM Meet individually with coaches and evaluators

After the scrimmage, outside evaluators will meet with each participant individually to discuss her strengths and areas for her to work on.  For each birth year from 2003-2006, each state within the Rocky Mountain District is given an allocation of available spots at the MDGDC. The outside evaluators will determine who will be chosen from New Mexico to attend the MDGDC. Selection results will be emailed to each participant shortly after the camp. Although girls with a 2007 birth year are not eligible to attend the MDGDC this year, they are encouraged to attend the NMGPSC for experience and a head start on next year.

This year registration will be online at The cost to participate is $40 (or $55 if you don’t register by March 20, in which case you need to bring a check to the camp).  Please also email Phil Askenazy at with the following information: player name, birth year, position, shot (R or L), and whether or not your player will attend the MDGDC if selected.

We look forward to seeing you at the camp on March 21! If you have any questions, please contact Phil Askenazy at the email address above or 505-264-1264.
